Lightroom Classic Not Responding after 14.2 Update

Hi,

My Lightroom Classic has been not responding since the new 14.2 version update. When I open the app it immediately gets stuck in "not responding" mode. I tried opening a backup catalog in case the current one was corrupted, but that too had the same result. I tried restarting the computer and uninstalling/reinstalling/restarting LrC. I also tried installing the older version (14.1.1) and that worked for a minute, but the program crashed on attempting to exit and eventually wouldn't open at all.

I'm running on a desktop with Windows 10.

Thanks,

Kate

You didn't say much about your computer.  Can you try updating the GPU driver?  Can you try turning off the GPU in preferences?

Sorry, jumped the gun there. Running:

OS: Windows 10 64-bit

GPU: GTX 980Ti

CPU: 12th Gen Intel i7-12700K

RAM: 64 GB

There was a newer game driver for the GPU, but updating it made no difference in LrC - still non-responsive. I can't adjust any preferences in LrC as it's totally non-responsive on start, however in the GPU app setting I can see that the GPU use for display and image processing is defaulted off.

Can you try a "studio driver".  And, if that doesn't work, can you try an older driver.   Have you tried the method of reseting preferences by olding down the "Alt" key while starting LrC?

Unfortunately no studio drivers are availble for my GPU, but it shouldn't much matter. I just tried an older driver too, and it made no difference. And yes, holding down Alt on startup doesn't go anywhere - it just becomes non-responsive as usual.

Thanks for the troubleshooting help!

1. Try resetting LR's preferences using the manual method described here:

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

That article explains how to restore your preferences if that doesn't help.

2. If step 1 doesn't help, try disabling the graphics processor manually:
