Lightroom Classic stalling at 3 images, or 8 images. Trying to rebuild a destroyed catalog.

I just spent an hour with a helpful Adobe Tech, and got some stuff imported, but I am still less than half way from finishing the rebuild of a lost catalog. And please, nobody tell me I should switch to the new Lightroom.
