Platforms:
- Lightroom mobile v10.0.2 on Android 15 (Pixel 8a)
- Lightroom Classic 14.0.1 on MacOS 15.0.1 (14" MacBook Pro, M1 2021)
Workflow:
- Take photo on mobile phone. Photo (jpg) is automatically added to a "Phone Import" album which has sync turned on.
- I open Lightroom Classic and see that the photo has been synced and appears in the "Phone Import" collection. The physical file is automatically placed in my file system according to my import settings by date, like MyPhotos/2024/10/PXL_xxxx.jpg
- I go to "All Synced Photographs" in my catalog, select the photo and hit delete. Lightroom prompts me with "1 photo will be removed from all synced collections and from Lightroom photos on Creative Cloud, but will not be deleted from the desktop catalog". I click OK to continue. I can confirm that the photo has been removed from the Creative Cloud by checking that the "Phone Import" collection on my phone is now empty. The full resolution photo, however, remains on my computer in MyPhotos/2024/10.
- Now I optionally do post-processing of my photo in Lightroom Classic (whether I do or don't, it doesn't affect what happens next).
- Finally I add the photo to one or more synced collections and this is where the failure occurs. Now Lightroom Classic tries to sync the photo, but it just says it's "Syncing 1 photo" forever. If I click the cloud icon at the top right and then click the cog icon, the sync activity in the Preferences dialog shows that it's trying to upload my photo, but it never completes that action.
The whole point of my workflow, of course, is to get photos taken on my mobile into Lightroom Classic and get the full resolution photo out of the cloud so I don't blow my 20GB limit. I just put the low quality preview back into the cloud, which doesn't count towards the limit.
There is a work-around I have discovered, once I get to the point where the "Syncing 1 photo" never completes:
- Go to the MyPhotos/2024/10 folder in Lightroom Classic and select the photo that refuses to sync.
- Delete the photo and when prompted, select "Remove from Lightroom", not "Delete from disk".
- Right-click on the folder in the folder list and choose "Synchronize Folder". In the dialog that appears, select "Import new photos (1)" then click the "Synchronize" button.
- When the photo reappears, I can now add it to a synchronized folder and Lightroom sync now works: the "Syncing 1 photo" message appears, then disappears again after a few seconds, as it should.
Obviously, this work-around is a pain to have to use for every photo taken on my mobile.
Thanks for considering this bug, and let me know if there's any more info required.
