Lightroom is not opening photshop since the latest update

Since the last update, 80% of the time, I have been unable to open Photoshop from Lightroom. Everything started when I updated to the last version, and now even if I go back to other versions, the bug persists. I can't work properly, and I'm losing a lot of work due to this. I've seen videos about other people having the same issue but I have not been able to fix it.

Something that always appears when I send images to Photoshop is "saving metadata" on the top left, and then Lightroom does not do anything.

Problems like this are usually solved by uninstalling Lightroom and Photoshop (keep the preferences), and then reinstalling Photoshop first and Lightroom after that. This order is important.

I've been installing and reinstalling every single version, and the problem persists.

And you removed both LrC and PS, then installed PS, followed by LrC, not the other way around?

Everything started happening right after updating Photoshop and lightroom so no idea what it broke.

Yes, it's Lightroom, I downgraded it and it started working as normal perfectly, but I lost mostly of all my catalog and work.

It has to be lightroom as I can't downgrade as it tells me my catalog is not compatible with older versions.

I have been doing some testing, and it seems Lightroom 12.5 works fine, but if I update to 13.0 or 13.1 this problem instantly starts appearing; it's a Lightroom problem.

Let's start this conversation over

1. In LrC /preferences/external editing/ . Do you see the proper PS version in the first section? If not STOP, that indicates a fouled up install.

2. Currently, can you instagate an Edit in PS at all? Pick a image you know is not missing. Does LrC pass the photo over to PS?

3. If you get no error, but PS does not show up, does opening PS then open with that image? Could indicate a preferences corruption, either for LrC and/ or PS.

3. If you can accomplish an Edit in PS, that is to say PS opens with the image in question, can you then Save?

4. And that save appears in LrC?

5. So if one photo works, you said 80%? What ones fail?

1. yes, I see the proper version there.

2. I can edit, and all but 80% of the time, the image does not open, and I have to restart Lightroom and photoshop constantly to see if it might work till it works.

When I send an image from Lightroom to photoshop, It just appears on the top left a message saying  "saving metadata," and nothing else happens.

I went back to the old Lightroom version I had the 12.5 and it works perfectly, but when I use the 13.0 or 13.1, this error starts happening. The problem is I already did a lot of work on the 13.0, so I'd lose a lot of progress returning to the 12.5 as it deletes a big part of my catalog when returning to that old version.

Not a solution, but what occurs if in LrC you do not attempt the edit in PS, instead you try the following:

  • accomplish an Export (to PSD or TIFF as desired)
  • From PS, open and edit that image.
  • Close the image.

In LrC refresh the previews if nessecary.

So, is that a thing? My problem? Because it started happening only after the 13.0, and you are right; it seems to happen when I don't save the changes in PS,  and then the image gets bugged till restarting several times. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me as well.
