Hi. I have a very old version of Lightroom (v3) which I have just reinstalled on a new PC. Install appears to have worked, however, I am unable to IMPORT any photos.

Any help would be appreciated.

Please provide details. Describe what happens when you try to import. Be specific and detailed. If there is an error message, please provide the exact word-for-word error message.

The only message I get is "Import in Progress" in the middle of the screen. This message stays permanently (as far as I can tell).

I should also add that for some reason LR is not connected to the Internet. I have been unable to register it, and "check for updates" also fails.

How many photos are you trying to import? Where are they located (camera card, hard disk, somewhere else)?

I should also add that for some reason LR is not connected to the Internet. I have been unable to register it, and "check for updates" also fails.

Make sure your firewall is not blocking Lr. There are no updates for Lr 3, so don't bother to check for them.

Hi. OK, I tried firstly with 6 photos (NEF files, so pretty big). That didn't work. I then tried with just a single photo which also failed. Both times, the photos were on the D: drive of the PC. Finally, I tried to import a single JPEG image from the C: drive. That failed too.

Regarding the inability to import photos, check your virus checker to make sure it isn't blocking certain types of files, such as .NEF and also .LRCAT

Regarding the lack of internet access, did you check the firewall to see if the LrC application is being scanned or blocked?

Perhaps this version is simply too old? Consider donating it to a museum. 🙂

Yep, that is not going to happen. The Adobe Servers for registration (was old v3 one that needed registration) and for any updates, are no longer on-line. Their is no way to update, no way to upgrade, no way to register.

As stated, So old it belongs in a museum.

I don't think Lr 5 and earlier required internet verification/registration. I believe that if you entered the serial number and LrC recognized this as a valid serial number (no internet required), then the software would run in non-Trial mode.

Not sure if this will help, not sure if this will work. V3 is way too old in my mind to remember. But..

In Lr, click on Help, click on System Info. Interested in the first 5 or so lines. Go ahead and share all of that if you desire, or just that first bit. Interested in the Lr version as stated in System Info, and the License status (that may not be something way back at v3, hmmm)
