Help.
I have tried everything I can think of to fix the immense lag in LRC v. 12. Everything, including buying a new NVMe drive, speaking three times to Adobe and had their techs in my system, with the last tech uninstalling and re-installing my entire Adobe Creative Cloud suite.
I have optimised my system (Win 11 64 bit) so that LRC has high performace graphics from my GPU.
I have expanded virtual memory, and I have 16GBs RAM
I've searched 15 forums for similar problems, and have done everything suggested but no change.

Yesterday, I had a look at the SysInfo in LRC. In there, LRC only recognizes Win10. On this note, I noticed an IMMEDIATE slowdown in LRC V. 11 when I upgraded to Win11.

A significant mystery is LRC takes up to 60 seconds to load. PS, which is located on the same drive NVMe 500gb 4gen - same partition, and from the same new install, loads in 5 seconds and there is no lag/drag. I'm pretty sure finding out what is causing this very long load time is the key to understanding what's going on.

Briefly, after the program finally loads, I can quickly edit up to five images before the program begins to bog down (one at a time, not a selection of five at the same time). As I continue to edit individual images, the system becomes slower and slower, the window begins to reload with every move, and both side panels reload several times, and reload on every mouse click, edit, slider move. By the time I'm 20 images in, it is taking 40 - 60 seconds just to advance to the next image, and up to three minutes to make any edits, regardless of how simple - an upright adjustment  or a sharpen will cause a huge, huge delay. The making tool... impossible to use 20 images in. The lag is astounding.  Early in October, I was trying to edit a wedding - 350 images. It took THREE, 12-hour days to do those edits, including multiple restarts of LRC - because it would cease working at all - and many complete system restarts. This would give me five images of normal edit times and then it would all slow to frozen molasses.

Yesterday evening, I imported a catalogue to a Win10 system. Zero lag whatsoever, no matter what I did, or how many masks. It was zipping along no problem.

So. V. 12 with the latest update (last week).
Windows, Win 11, up to date (just checked this).
Programs are located on a 500gb NVMe
LRC catalogue on its own 500 gb gen4 NVMe - nothing at all else on that drive
Images on a 6TB internal drive with 50 percent free space.
Also images (two shoots) on an external 1TB drive
GeForce 1650 GPU with latest driver updates, and optimized for graphics.
My system is 1.5 years old

I have tried everything including unmounting all my drives but my C: drive and my Catalogue drive. Zero change:

I have tested performance by exporting small - 20 image - catalogues to both my fast NVMe drives (both motherboard mounted and both with very respectable read/write). Zero change and still up to 60 seconds to load the program at all. Lag set in after five or six single image edits; I have tested using images on various drives with no change at all.

I am at a complete loss to understand:
Why LRC references Win 10 in a Win 11 envrironment in SysInfo

Why LRC takes up to 60 seconds to load at all
Why after single edits of five or six images, the entire thing bogs down massively, reloads and reloads and reloads endlessly regardless of size or location of catalogue, or type of image: same issues whether CR2 or Jpg..
Why full system reboot, and LRC restart change nothing.

Super desperate for help.

I am a working photographer and need - NEED - this program to work quickly and well. I've used Lightroom since V 2. so not a noob at all.

My LrC 12.0.1 says I have Windows 10, but I know I have Windows 11. I wouldn't worry about that.

Have you tried changing the settings at Preferences->Performance->Use Graphics Processor — please try changing the settings so that you test if each option (including OFF) makes a difference.

Also, please tell us:

  • what edits are you doing? are there a lot of local adjustments on an image?
  • what is the size of your monitor(s) in pixels (width and height), do not tell me inches
  • what is the size of your original images from the camera in pixels or megapixels, do not tell me megabytes

By the way, disk speed is almost never the bottleneck in the Develop Module, so a new NVMe isn't likely to speed up anything in the Develop Module. There is very little disk access while you are editing.

Re settings in Preferences >> GPU, yes, I have tried every and all combinations of on, auto, off in LRC, and also have enabled and disabled the GPU optimisation in Win11. None of this  - no combination - made any difference.

Two Benq monitors, both 1920/1080 (this is the recommended for LRC in their documentation). I have tried disabling one display but that also made no difference.

It hasn't made any difference at all if I'm only scrolling through the filmstrip - as I progress through via right arrow or mouse clicks, the further along the filmstrip, the slower it is. If I begin making adjustments, yes, things slow even more, resulting in full system hang. It doesn't matter if the adjustments are nothing more than crops, or if they include masks/healing - the bog down begins as soon as sixth or seventh image.

The image size and format make zero difference. It doesn't matter if I'm editing JPGS or RAW

JPGS are 11.5 mbs; RAW images are 19MBs. To note, however, I have tried working on small, exported JPGS that are 1000x1000 px and experience the same slowdowns as I progress through the filmstrip.

I import 1:1s with Smart Previews, and have performace set to use the SPs for editing, so file size is not a particular issue.

My main mystery is what is causing the huge boot lag. What could be causing the program to take up to 80 seconds to load?

Please read carefully, I specifically asked for pixels or megapixels, and specifically I asked you not tell me megabytes of your original photos

Nevertheless, I ask for megapixels of your original photos.

This has often been traced down to a plug-in, which is also why you have been asked to provide plug-in information and the first screen from Help->System Info by @Ian Lyons .

The size of images is irrelevant.
My question, and what I believe will expose the critical problem is the immense BOOT LAG. Booting the program has no relationship to the images - their sizes or location - nor does the boot rely on GPU.

So you know, as it seems you may understand me to be new to this program, I am a working photographer with 40 years' experience, and have been using LR since version 2. I have never experienced problems with this program, except since I updated my OS to Win 11. At no other point has there ever been an issue, slow boot, lag, slowdown in editing regardless of the size of images I shoot/import.

Additionally, as I have two NVMe drives, one with Win10, and the other with Win 11 - and they are identical but for the OS - I have verified that LRC functions absolutely perfectly in the Win10 environment - with all my preferences, settings, and with identical documents, and programs. The ONLY difference between them is the Windows version.

I can absoltuely confirm there is a glitch in my Win 11 system, which is causing some serious issues with LRC, and that I have spoken to experts from Adobe, who have been in my system, and none has identified any issue with any of my hardware or settings, or the size or location of my images or my catalogue.

I recently had a Microsoft expert provide an update to Win 11 and even that made zero difference.

Have you checked that the LrC catalog, previews, etc, etc are excluded from the Windows or third party virus checking apps?

If using the Logitech Options plugin, then disable to check whether doing so helps.

If using a Wacom tablet, then ensure that you have Win 11 compatible driver.

I have the same issue, LR Classic v12 is impossibly slow, it drives me nuts. Here is my log. It does not matter whether I edit 46Mpix or 20Mpix photos. The lag is terrible, anything (righ click for context menu) takes about 6-10 seconds. Loading to Develop module the same. The only thing that is not so slow is editing HDR photos once rendered. Any help will be appreciated (yes I tried GPU on/off/auto).

Not exactly.
We experimented extensively.
I purchased two clean, fast NVMe drives.
One one, I created a C: drive with a clean install of Win 10. On the second, I created a clean install of Win 11.
All three of my C: drives are identical - documents, structure - except for the OS
Then, I shut my system down, pulled the Win 10 updated to Win 11 drive, and inserted the Win 10 C; drive. Then I downloaded Adobe Creative Cloud and installed my programs (LRC, Photoshop, Bridge). In this environment, LRC worked like an absolute dream. ZERO lag.
Then, I shut my system down, pulled the Win 10 C; drive, and insterted the Win 11 C: drive. Again, downloaded Creative Cloud and installed my programs. Same deal: LRC works perfectly.

Then, for S&G, I pulled that drive AND every other hard drive I have in my system, and reinserted the Win 10 updated to Win 11 C: drive. Even as the only drive in my system, LRC would not function. Period. Absolutely horrifying.

I have heard many, many stories of LRC lagging to the point of being unuseable, and there doesn't seem to be a clear reason. Some of these reports are from MAC users, including someone with a brand new Mac Powerbook. Adobe has not addressed this at all.
