Local Adjustments stopped working

Lightroom Classic suddenly stopped allowing me to make local adjustments.  If I try to use auto selection, brushes or radial filters a small subject icon appears on my image but I am unable to do any editing. At first the new upgrade was working fine for me. Now all lightroom is allowing me to do is make very basic adjustments. It is also not allowing me to open about half of my imported images. Please HELP!

I've just had this same issue just happen as well. Any updates from Adobe on how to fix it?
