"Lightroom 6 is the last stand-alone version of Lightroom that can be purchased outside of a Creative Cloud membership. There will not be a Lightroom 7 perpetual offering. Lightroom 6 will remain for sale for an undetermined amount of time, but will no longer be updated with camera support or bug fixes after the end of 2017. @zBernie:
near-professional quality...
OK, so you're an amateur who doesn't need professional-grade software. Nothing wrong with that. One wonders, then, why you chose Adobe in the first place.

You must work for Adobe. Anyone can google "pinnacle studio near professional quality" and find numerous articles that mention this. Pinnacle Studio was formerly "Avid", which is used to edit movies such as Wonder Woman and other big titles.

Bzzzzzt! Wrong again! I am not connected to Adobe in any way. I pay retail for my two Adobe subscriptions, CC and photography plan, which I consider to be a very worthwhile deal.

No! Adobe needs to continue to support a perpetual model for licensing. Many people prefer to invest once, create a process and stick to it until such a time they feel new features or capabilities or systems warrant a change. Not only do some people not want recurring expenses to keep using a product but also like the stability of a known environment that isn't constantly being updated and if if doesn't work for you, you have no option to continue to use an older stable version typically in a subscription based model. Or you spend a painful amount of time getting back to older version with many headaches getting there.
Customers, particularly creative people, like options that fit their needs and goals. As much as I like Lightroom and would miss many of it's features, this is enough for me to look elsewhere for these tools. Particularly when LR Classic CC has introduced so many performance and use issues in its work to move to subscription only, consistent feature set across both product options.

It’s senseless to discuss this further, as Adobe made it’s choice. That is probably a choice based on Adobes insight of perpetual and subscription users. Looking for alternatives is Ok, they are out and probably just waiting for Adobe customers unhappy with Adobe‘s decisions. I know many people switching to the subscription model recently.

Yo! This thread will soon have a birthday. Time to give it up and move on. There is plenty of competition.

What has to be said has been said and people unhappy with the current situation are invited to look for different software. As much as I regret, Adobe made it’s decision and will (probably) not switch back.
