Are you trying to install Lr 6 from the original disk? Or is Lr 6 already installed?
Trying to open what? Lr 6, or an installer program, or the disk?
Exactly what crashes ... your computer, or Lr 6, or the disk, or something else?

When did you do the install? In the last few days? A long time ago?

@Kevin3712626756jt , you stated "had to reload Lr to a new HD after a HD crash".
Lightroom recognizing your computer as a new unit, Lr 6 requires registration of serial number and activation ( two activations allowed ).
1. You possibly have two units activated already.
2. It is necessary to deactivate on of those units.
3. Adobe activate and deactivate servers are no longer available online.
4. Adobe ceased providing support to activate or deactivate at the end of Dec 2023.
The only option at this time is upgrade to Adobe Photography plan available via subscription.

Was that a few days ago, or a long time ago? Approximately (or exactly) what month was this?
If it was in the last few days, then the sad news is that you cannot install Lr 6 any more.

Which version of LR6 do you have installed?
Here you can try to download LR 6.14 from the Internet Archive:
it's the latest available version of the perpetual license. Install it over your existing installation.
Please notice: it will take a while until the site is responding.
You can also try to reset the preferences to the default settings:
Resetting the lightroom preferences file - updated | Lightroom Queen Forums
Be aware: There's no more support for Lightroom 6: End of Support | Lightroom 6 Downloads and Syncing (adobe.com)
You can't also activate/deactivate Lightroom because the appropriate server are no longer online.
