LR Constantly displaying already imported photos

Hello. 

I was a bit lazy for a while, and was taking lots of photos with my iPhone, rather than with a camera.   Today, I decided to get those pictures off of the iPhone and into LR. 

Plugged in the iPhone, went to the import dialogue, and selected a few hundred photos.  Checked them (or 'ticked them' if you're not American), and imported them. 

Then I went back into the 'import' dialogue, and - the photos are still there.  I have 'new photos' ticked, and also 'copy'. .. as these screenshots should show.  

 

Am I doing something wrong?  Is there something different about the way an iPhone handles photos, to an SD card?

Addendum: LR Classic 11.0.  MacOS 12.0.1.  iPhone XSMax running iOS 15.1.
