After selecting sky on a couple images in a row Lr will crash.  This is with the latest update.  I'm using a 16 core computer with a 3080Ti video card on Windows 11.

This could be a video card issue. I suggest disabling the GPU and testing to see if the issue persists.

Select Sky and Subject don't obey the setting Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor, so turning that option off won't affect those commands.

Many people have reported that Select Subject and Sky will produce an error message when they have out-of-date graphics drivers.

Try updating your graphics driver following the precise instructions in this article:

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html#solution-4

A number of people have reported that upgrading their graphics drivers fixed their problems with Select Subject and Sky.

If that doesn't help, please copy/paste here the entire contents of the LR menu command Help > System Info.

Occasional lightroom will suddenly close while using the masking tool. It opens back up and seems to work fine.

Hi,

We're sorry about the trouble with Lightroom Classic. Since when are you experiencing this issue?

You can try disabling the option to Use Graphics Processor from Lightroom Classic by going to Preferences, then Performance. Once done, relaunch Lightroom Classic to check if that helps.

If it does, please try the steps suggested here: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html

Let us know how it goes!

Regards,

Nikunj

Is lightroom meant to run much slower when you switch this option off? selecting images runs so slow now.

"Is lightroom meant to run much slower when you switch this option off? selecting images runs so slow now."

Yes, Adobe has invested a large amount of effort over the past number of years making LR and Camera Raw run faster by using the graphics processor (GPU).  Disabling the use of the GPU will often make some operations in LR run significantly slower, depending on your hardware.

If you're having to turn off the GPU to get LR to operate correctly, try updating your graphics driver following the precise instructions in this article:

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html#solution-4
