LRC 15 Slow?

Engaged ,
Oct 30, 2025 Oct 30, 2025

Since updating to LrCC 15 yesterday (Windows 11), I find my workflow much slower. Both the library and develop modules are slower, photos taking a long time (a couple of seconds) to paste settings in the develop module (despite LRCC receiving the input to paste immediately, the effects take a few seconds to apply to the image - this is true across both my Phase One tiff/raw files and my Fujifilm X series raw files).

Anybody else experiencing some slowdowns (as usual with a new LRCC release, unfortunately).

I've seen the same behavior on my side in the past. In the Taskmanager the CPU is permanently on 95-100% and LrC reacts in the Library module extremly slow. I notices also that the LR-Katalog.lrcat-wal file is constantly growing and growing.

After I restore the catalog from my recent backup all worked fine again.

I don't know why this happens. I haven't done anything that would have resulted in major updates to the catalog.

Try to create a new catalog with several pictures and check or resto

"Disabling Intel GPU is not an option...I tried only for curiosity and I immediately lost the multi-screen option"

But did the performance problem go away?  If it did, that's a very strong indicator that when Windows automatically assigns the Intel GPU to LR, you're getting the performance problems, and you need to Axel's other suggestion.

Ok, I updated the nvidia drivers as @AxelMatt and you kindly suggested and I confirm the performance have improved, but NOT at the same level of 14.5

I also set in Windows Settings to use GPU instead integrated intel....  BTW if I put contrasting information (eg. intel in windows and nvidia in nvidia control panel) WHO WINS ?

sandroriz_0-1762698972225.png

The more noticeable "lag" is in Developer module: when I click the "next photo" (arrow right); the panels on the right remain disabled for 2 or more seconds and then become available.

Note that it happens even if the photo have 1:1 preview rendered

ANYWAY THANKS FOR YOU HELP to both!!

All these tweaks we're being given are cargo cult nonsense. If LR was working fine with v 14.51 and then started crapping out immediately after the upgrade to 15, isn't the simplest explanation that there's something wrong with v 15?

@Viking_Rabbit: "If LR was working fine with v 14.51 and then started crapping out immediately after the upgrade to 15, isn't the simplest explanation that there's something wrong with v 15?"

Often that's the case, and it may be what's happening here. But I've helped enough people over the years where it isn't the case.

There are many reports here of a new release of LR exhibiting problems that weren't present with the previous release, and updating the graphics driver for the GPU fixes the issue. Adobe is constantly improving how LR and Camera Raw use the GPU, and it's not uncommon for the new code to trip over existing bugs in particular graphics drivers that the old release didn't. (The drivers have many, many bugs, which is why GPU manufacturers release new versions a couple times a month.)

As another example, I've helped several people experiencing slowth in LR 15 caused by them placing their catalogs in folders synced by Onedrive, which has long been a known cause of all sorts of problems with LR (an issue caused by Onedrive, not LR).  Why those people didn't experience issues with LR 14, I don't know, but apparently they didn't.

Sure, the graphics drivers are one example of a problem resulting from an upgrade that the user can fix (and the first thing most of us probably checked), but also would it be that hard to test with one or two previous driver iterations and issue an alert for people to update their drivers?
I guess my issue is that in all the threads I've found, all the usual tweaking of the settings gets suggested (e.g. turn off XMP writing, move your photos to an SSD, reinstall LR (are you kidding?), etc.). One imagines that if the currently tweaked settings were working under 14.5, they should work under 15, right? I shouldn't have to re-tune LR after every upgrade? If I do, that is a problem with the software! Even if the problem were caused by the auto-culling feature being turned on (it wasn't for me): maybe that setting shouldn't be on by default.

I use LR on three different PCs, all pretty tricked out for photo editing, one with an AMD card, two with Nvidia, and the LR 15 problem hit ALL of them.

Installing an upgrade shouldn't break my workflow!

Hello John,

Understand the points in your note above, and do not disagree in any regard. My situatioon is that I've done everything mentioned in your note and pretty much everything suggested by all of the posts concerning the
V15 situation. My question to you now is: what should I do next? I haven't reinstalled v15 - should I do that? Please help.

The update to Lightroom 15 was released too soon.  When I installed it the first time it caused nothing but headaches.  Reinstallation of the software and creation of a new catalog finally brought me online; however,  v. 15 is exceedingly slow.  Opening the program can take up to 60-70 seconds...and, the development mode can take 13 sec to open an image.  None of these problems existed with v.14.5  I use Windows 11 Pro, i7 processor, 32 GB installed memory etc.  I have tried numerous suggestions and non of them have helped.

@James278055166zdm, please do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.

I have a similar issue,  15.0.1 takes 3 minutes to open an empty Catalog !  QA on these releases must be pretty inadequate.  Serves me right as I had previously stuck to Current Version n - 1 for my production environment.

Why you think this?

I don't see this slowness on my side. So it seems a local issue with the configuration/compatibility on the loacal machine.

Biggest problems are length of time to open Ligroom 15 (60-75 sec.),  time switching from Library to Develope module (15-20 sec),   switching from image to image in either module mode.  These problems were not there prior to updating.
