Color Management

Color is terrible - kind of magenta.

Changed to Managed by Printer.

Still bad but different.

My workflow has been always Color Management and any ICC profile, always was good. Suddenly I am having this problem. Nothing changed in my setup.

I am including both LrC and PS screens since I am getting the exact same bad prints with both.

5. What I did so far to no avail:

  • Reinstall LrC
  • Reinstall PS
  • Reinstall printer drive from Epson
  • Clean nozzles, all checks in printer came out okay
  • Restart the computer

The last two screen shots both don’t show enough information and may indicate an incorrect setup.

The reason I say they don’t show enough information is that in both Photoshop and Lightroom Classic, it’s important to coordinate both the application print color settings and the printer driver (Epson) color settings. But the Photoshop and Lightroom Classic screen shots only show one half of each setup.

The Photoshop print options are shown first, but doesn’t show the Epson print options (in the macOS Print dialog box in Photoshop), so we can’t see all the relevant settings in Photoshop.

The last screen shot does not show the Lightroom Classic print options (missing information), but does show the Epson print options (in the macOS Print dialog box). Also, this shows the Epson driver Color Mode set to sRGB, but if you’re having the application manage the color (which is what the Photoshop one shows), the Epson Color Mode should be set to No Color Management. If Lightroom Classic and the Epson printer software are both set to manage color, then you have double color management (and bad looking color).

To set up printing in both applications correctly for application color management, the application must be set to manage colors and the profile must be selected; and to set up printing in the Epson driver software correctly, in both applications the Epson driver must be set to No Color Management. This is what’s shown in the picture below.

If the sRGB Color Mode setting in your last screen shot means you actually intended to have the Epson printer driver manage print color, then in both Photoshop and Lightroom Classic, the application must be set to Printer Manages Colors.

This is the way it’s worked for many years.

Yes, sorry, my screenshot was wrong since I made photos of every possible trial I made.  But my regular flow is as you say, and it always was:

Screenshot 2024-09-30 at 2.45.25 PM.png

This setup (and the previous, and many other choices I tried) all are giving me the same bad print (variations of magenta hues) . It feels like the printer is not getting the right profiles.

I just did from Preview: same thing.

OK. With your additional info it seems like you’re setting up the Adobe apps properly. And, knowing that it is failing the same way in Apple Preview points to the problem being in macOS in general and not specifically within Adobe apps.

However, now I’m not sure what might cause it to fail that way, with the odd solarization in the shadows. Because I am also running macOS 14 Sonoma and have printed from Lightroom Classic recently to my Epson printer (different model, but similar), and the prints came out great. They were enlargements for a public exhibition.

Also, it’s good to know your printer passed the nozzle checks, because now we know it isn’t that.
