LrC hangs and freezes under Win 11

Hello! I run LRC on Windows 11. Unfortunately, despite the fact that the hardware is correct, the settings in the software are correct, the computer is also fine. Lightroom classic occasionally slows down and a thick black bar appears with the menu section while it is working. Can you help me find a solution to this problem?

Thanks

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Please tell us the version NUMBER of your Lightroom Classic. Please tell us the make and model and driver version NUMBER of your GPU.

Are there specific actions in Lightroom Classic that seem to "cause" the slowness and black bar? Can you show us a screen capture of this black bar (use the "Insert photos" icon; do not attach files)?

There is a newer driver for your GPU, version 560.70. Please install it. Please make sure you install the Studio driver and not the game driver.

An putting in my two cents.

When you update that driver, select the Studio, not the Game Ready, and select Custom Install as to force a clean install, in case some old junk code is on your computer from earlier updates.

LATEST
  • The screenshot is a little hard to read. But it looks like you have now updated the driver to the latest.
  • HOWEVER, you have the default Game Ready Driver selected, not the Studio.
  • Currently the Game Ready and the Studio drivers have the same version number, so they might actually be the same.
  • In the future, it is recommended to select Studio Drivers. NVIDIA recommends that for Creative users as opposed to the Game Ready fore Gamers. The Game Ready drivers can have issues, they are often the absolute newest by NVIDIA, and are meant to fix Gamer issues. They are often not well tested for non Gamers. Eventually that gets fixed. The Studio drivers are more tested, but they are often a bit older. To change what driver the GeForce Experience looks for, click those three dots (shown below)

At any rate, any change in LrC?

So, the Develop Loupe Overlay info is showing up in a black rectangle, that obscures much info and the top menu.

This sounds familiar, as in brought up in this community before. Also, the color (black) may  be different for some (gray, white, etc)

I do not suppose that simply using the keyboard shortcut, in this case lower case i, changes the overlay???

Having trouble searching for a solution, a previous discussion, in the community. I would suspect that a reset of the preference file is called for.

Some of the discussions I have found have referred to:

  • OS, but Windows 11, is just fine. That is not it
  • GPU, but yours is fantastic, That is not it
  • GPU driver, but yours is fairly new, perhaps a few months old. P.S. a new one has been released, three days ago, recommend the Studio version.
  • In LrC preferences, turn of the use of the GPU, this is typically a test to see if the GPU is the issue, Despite the above you might want to try that.
  • Simply cycling thru overlays, but why would that black rectangle appear, not on mine.

I don't know why it is. I just updated the driver, I hope it will be resolved. Nothing gets hot, the machine is a few weeks old, so there can be no dust in it.

A statement like that, often leads members to ask if your computer is overheating. LrC is a very resource intensive app, some say a resource pig. Please do not compare to say PS, LrC vs PS in use of resources is a no go, PS is mild in resource use compared to LrC.

So, does this computer have dust bunnies, inlets, outlets, around UPS inlet as well, and inside (I think you have a desktop based on that GPU) around the CPU (if Fan cooled), and the GPU (the fans)

Ans any indication of a overheat for the CPU or the GPU?

That black rectangle behind the Develop Loupe Info, if you walk away for awhile, does it eventually go away. s if LrC has slowed down for some reason.
