LrC import not reponding

Explorer ,
Jan 10, 2026 Jan 10, 2026

LrC used to able to import photos  even some data disk are unmounted, however recently when one of my disks unmounted, the Import function not respoding.

I have 3 USB data disk, recent photos store to external SSD, older photos store to other 2 external HDDs.

Sometimes if I don't need to work with old photos, I keeps the external HDDs offline, the LrC still keep full function if I don't access the HDDs photos in LrC.

Recently, I found that, if one of my HDDs offline, the Import function will not resonding. Nothing happen when do import with menu or press CMD-Shift-I. , the "File" menu, just flash to blue color when I press the CMD-Shift-I, and didn't pop-up import UI. I have to online all disks in order to make the import works, while I just want to import new photos to SSD only.

I tested all LR catalogue has the same issue, this should not related to the catalogue, should be sth wrong with the global LrC setting.

Tried reboot computer, not help.

I don't sure how to fix, make the import works again w/o all disk mounted.

Version: 15.1

OS: macOS 26.2 (mac mini M4)

Thanks!!

I resolved the issue already.

I traced the LrC log file.

~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/lrc_console.log

My first guess is that you should reset the preference file.

It is due to I moved ~/Movies to external HDD and created a symbolic link at the same location point to the exteral HDD location.

When HDD offline, the ~/Movies became a dead link.

I don't know why LrC try to access that folder.

Workaround: remove the ~/Movies symbolic links and create new empty ~/Movies folder.

It works again.

Hope this help with other users.
