LrC keeps giving errors when I want to import photos to catalogue

I've created a new catalogue. But, when I want to import photos to it, it keeps having technical issues. The app/computer (MacBook Pro) has mentioned that it doesn't have enough app space, so I've deleted all temporary files (and more).

For the past hours, I've updated my computer, restarted it multiple times, I've deleted the catalogue I wanted to work with and created a new one. But it just won't work.

Any tips, ideas?

Please post the message appearing word by word as "having technical issues" does not really help in knowing what issue you face.

Also, describe what you are trying to do, what works and what not, in details.

In addition, let us know the exact version of your OS as well as of Lightroom (number, not latest or alike).

I don't get an error message for a long time. It just gives me the 'coloured wheel' for minutes and minutes and minutes. I cannot do anything.

Steps I take:

- I open LrC

- It automatically opens the latest catalogue.
- I click 'Import' to import pictures.

- I just gives me the coloured wheel.

- Half an hour later my computer says it doesn't have enough app memory and that I need to close one of the apps.

Things I have discovered: it apparently seems to be a problem when I try to import pictures from my LaCie and when my LaCie is connected. I don't have any issues when I create a catalogue on my computer and when I import pictures from my computer (instead of my external hard drive). My hard drive has to be disconnected.

That probably means that this hard drive is failing, or that it has a bad cable.

A little update on the issue: I assume the reason I was having difficulties with the catalogue is because I created it through another app. I always use Narrative to cull my images. Normally I create a catalogue in LrC and then I import the images I selected. But: this time I wanted to do it through Narrative.

Today I did it the 'normal way', and I had no trouble with my external hard drive whatsoever...
