LrC not reading Backblaze restore 4TB SSD

New Here ,
Nov 19, 2025 Nov 19, 2025

I recently had the external hard drive containing all of my images fail. Today the 4 TB WD SSD from Backblaze arrived. My Macbook Pro shows this new drive in Finder but LrC is not seeing it. I've used multiple SSDs in the past as I travel quite a bit and never had a problem with it recognizing any of the Samsung T7s that I use. I am using LrC version 15.0.1. Apple M2 Pro  Sonoma 14.6.1.

All you need to do is update the location of the main folder in Lightroom indeed. You can do this now with current drive you received and again later when you copied over all your files to a new drive no problem.

LrC actually already has Full Disk Access. Any other ideas?

Hey @Kimberly22381549swhm

It sounds like Lightroom Classic may not be recognizing your new Backblaze restored SSD due to the way the drive is formatted or how macOS handles permissions.

1. Check the drive format
Confirm how the Backblaze HD is formatted? Is it NTFS or exFAT? Open Disk Utility and verify the format.

2. Reset drive permissions
Even with Full Disk Access, Lightroom may not show the volume if macOS thinks you don’t have ownership.
In Finder → Get Info, scroll to Sharing & Permissions and enable “Ignore ownership on this volume” if it’s available. Then eject and reconnect the drive.

Let us know!

Thank you! I have checked both of these things and both were already set up as you suggested.

I've been searching info on this "problem" and is this just as simple as I have not yet clicked on the parent folder and asked it to find the missing folder? I haven't done that yet because I want to copy the folders from the Backblaze drive to a new drive (on order) that I will be using going forward. I didn't want to  go through the "finding" process twice. But now, if I were to click "Find the missing folder" with the BB drive plugged in, would it find that even though it's not showing up in LrC currently? Or if I were to click "import" would it see that drive? I would NOT IMPORT!! just wondering if there is a test to see if this is me not understanding the system or if there actually is some connection/reading/writingi problem. The new drive will be here Monday.

Yes! this is me not understanding something basic about LrC. As soon as I clicked import the Backblaze drive appeared in locations. I feel much more confident that when the new drive arrives I will be able to copy the folders to the new drive and then re-direct LrC to that drive. Thanks so much for helping me troubleshoot (my brain).
