Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs.

Do you have any other hard drives, even an external one. If a catalog is place in a different hard drive, does that catalog behave?

LATEST

The ACR VM (cache) and Real Memory (RM) values would be normal if new catalog with no images, the OP has flushed the cache or is using non-proprietary raw files (e.g. DNG). That being said, since the OP has indicated that the issue doesn't repeat after relaunching and doesn't occur at all since updating to 11.5.2, I suspect a conflict of some sort. Hopefully, it's now resolved.

Note - the ACR cache is 'indexed' per catalog/app (LrC, Lr, ACR). So, 'Sys Info' is catalog specific. It's been this way for a few years, but much of the documentation and guidance doesn't appear to reflect this.
