P: LrC v15 Drag and Drop on dock icon opens the App but won't import.

Community Beginner ,

Hi. Since updating to v15, when I drag and drop a file onto the app from my desktop or folders, the app opens fine but doesn't and won't import the file I dropped on it. I have never had a problem like this with the app until I updated to v15 version. Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong or is this a bug with the new version? I am on a MacBook M4 pro.

Dragging a photo to the LrC icon in the dock now works again with my LR 15.0.1 / Mac OS 15.7.1, even when LR isn't started. Thanks.

Greetings all,

A new update for the Adobe Photography products has been released.  The 15.0.1 (November) update contains an update regarding this issue.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by pressing  [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Thank you for being so patient.

Dragging a photo to the LrC dock icon doesn't work for me with LR 15.0 on Mac OS 15.7.1. LR starts but the Import window doesn't appear. However, if LR is already started, then dragging the photo to the dock icon correctly opens the Import window. I observe the same misbehavior with LR 15.0 on Mac OS 26.1 beta 4.

But LR 14.5.1 works correctly.

Yes, it's frustrating. I have checked everything I know and it refuses to import the file when dropping it on the app icon anymore like it always has unless the app is already running, which you shouldn't have to do.  I hope this can be fixed as it was a good time saver and part of my workflow. Photoshop still opens and imports this way fine after the updates for it.

Hey @Peter_Everett8532, & @johnrellis. I've logged this for review.

It may totally unrelated but we've also discovered similar behavior in Adobe Bridge where drag drop on macOS dock does not work.

Users suggested holding the CMD key when doing the drag-and-drop helped, could your try the same and let me know how it goes?

Thanks!

@Sameer K Thank you. Holding the command key doesn't work. The LRC app opens when you drag and drop, but will not import the file like it always has before the update to v15. Hopefully it can be sorted.

After the last update (Lightroom Classic Release 15.0) I can no longer cull my photos using photo mechanic directly on my SD card, flag photos, select them, and then drag and drop to the lightroom Icon to open up the lightroom application and the  import dialogue.  It will continually just open the previous import window in lightroom.  The only way to force it to work is to open lightroom, open the import dialogue window manually and then drag and drop the photos from photo mechanic into the import dialogue window.  It worked flawlessly before the update was pushed out.  Now it's just several extra steps which is a bit annoying but i'm hoping it's a bug and they will push out a fix.

Good evening,

I'm having the same issue when using Photo Mechanic software to import photos to edit in LR. It opens the import screen displaying previous import.

I got upgraded to LR Classic 15.0 with a new catelog V13-3.Ircat.  Now, I can no longer drag and drop photos to my LRC icon on the bottom of my screen.   I have always imported by photos this way.  Why did it change?

It may be a Windows 11 change.  I can drop image files on the LrC desktop icon and the Import dialog opens.   If I drop it on to the matching Taskbar icon, nothing happens.

Adobe has acknowledged this bug with LR 15 on Mac:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-lrc-v15-drag-and-drop-on-dock-icon-opens-the...

As a workaround, start LR before you drag photos to its dock icon.

Running the latest MacOS with LR 51.0,  I edited a new gallery. Tried to delete and remove some rejected photos, Could not do it bulk, so individually removed and deleted both seemed to work. Then edited the remaining photos. Exported my jpegs successfully. then went to close Lightroom. It said i needed to pick a new backup folder. I retried,  then tried to pick a new folder. it errored out and closed LR. I reopened, and thought I successfuly created new backup.  but upon reopening all the removed photos were back. Blank spots for the deleted photos were back. And all my edits are gone.  I jusst updated to the 15.0.1 b ut the gallery is still not showing any edits etc?  Was this a bug that was fixed?  have I lost all those edits?
