There is no LRCC. There is Lightroom Classic, and there is Lightroom, which stores images in the cloud. Which version are you referring to? What is your operating system? Please provide details about your computer system.

Sorry, Lightroom Classic on Imac 27. The software version is 15.8.11 or
Catilina. I was trying to upgrade to Big Slur last night. By
upgrade grading, I could solve, why I can't have my XQD reader read the
images and upload them to my external hard drive. Lightroom CC does not
show images to upload into Lr Classic. So I download them on the external
hard drive. Then import them to Lightroom Classic. I think my external hard
drive is doing double duty.

I'm afraid your problem explanation is not clear to me. Could you please re-state the problem? Also, your title says "old external hard drive is full" but I don't see anything like that in your explanation above.

Also, please don't refer to Lightroom CC as there is no such thing any more. If you mean the cloud version, it is now called Lightroom.

To tell you the truth,  I am scared out of my my mind I have lost over  200,000 images. Anytime I deal with upgrades or ran out memory, I loose my images.

I just wanted to add a new external hardware drive and not lose my images. I am so over whelmed with aniety.

Is there anybody out there can go into my computer and fix lightroom so I have all my images on one catolog, find all my losted images and have tons of memory. I am not computer savay.

Adding a new external HD will not cause you to lose your images. You just plug it in and everything should work, the old HD with the old images, and the new external HD with whatever new images you put on it.

There is no reason for you to be scared out of your mind about losing images. If you are adding a new external hard drive you have two choices. If it's a bigger hard drive that will replace the old one then all you have to do is copy the images from the old external hard drive to the new one and plug the new external hard drive into the computer. Ensure that the computer identifies the new hard drive in the same fashion that it did the old one, and continue on.

If you are adding an additional external hard drive then just add it. It will be treated as a new additional drive, identified differently. The old external hard drive will still be accessible that has the 200,000 images on it, and you can access them as you have in the past. All that's necessary is for you to take a little time to think about what you are doing and where your images are. It's a simple matter of image management. Lightroom is not some mysterious monster that destroys images. All that is necessary is for you the user to think about what you are doing.

Why is the LR Classic not showing images when importing from the Sony XQD
reader. Could not use this method anymore. ( "images/source" from the card
reader to "copy" to the "old external hard drive". This was shown on the
import tab at the top.)

So, I had to create a new way to load my images. I copied images from the
reader directly to my old external drive. Clicked on import, found the
images on my hard drive on the left and imported the images to Lightroom
Classic. I think the images got copied to my old hard drive. (note: that
was the LR path for the images via the importer tab.) I think they were
added again l onto the old external hard drive.

What is the correct way of doing this?

Thanks for listening.

Note: I just upgraded the IMac 27" to the version 11.1 The Big Sur
