Masking causing blackout on photos

Community Beginner ,
Dec 12, 2023 Dec 12, 2023

Before I uninstall and reinstall LRC, wondering if anyone else has this problem or knows how to fix it? This is happening intermittently in LRC for me. I think it started this fall, but perhaps it was earlier?  It's been intermittent.  DSC_2674-Enhanced-NR.jpgUsually it’s when/if I try to make a mask. Instead of seeing any adjustments that I am doing, I see nothing but black. But this time I was able to mask no problem, but when I exported this black mess came up. Do you happen to know what I am doing wrong? I’ve searched the internet…I don’t think I am asking the right question.  I use a Mac and both LR and the Mac are updated.

For completeness can you list the machine you are running on including the processor and GPU specifics. Also list the version of Mac OS you are using? This might others help find this post. Issues such as this are usually very specific to the GPU and driver version (set by the Mac OS version) one is using. If it helps to turn off the GPU, it might be helpful to upgrade the Mac OS version (if possible).

Sure.  MacBook Pro.  2.4 GHz. 8 Core Intel Core i9.  AMD Radeon Pro 5500M.  4GB. Intel UHD. Graphics 630 1536 MB. 64 GB 2667 MGHz DDR4 MacIntosh HD Sonoma 14.1.1.  Recently updated.  The problem started with the Lightroom update 2 updates ago.

Are you running LRC 13.1? Did the problem start at LR 13.0? Sorry, we often see people say that they are running the very latest LR Classic and then it turns out they are several versions behind.

This machine should not have problems like this and you should be able to use the GPU fully. As you know Adobe doesn't currently recommend upgrading Sonoma to 14.2 but there is a 14.1.2 update so that is something to do.

My LR is 13.1.  It says "no updates".  New problem discovered tonight with the GPU off...I can't run the LR denoise.  I plan on trying an adobe assistant tomorrow.  I can't pin down when exactly...because it happened, then was fine.  Then happened then was fine.  Until it wasn't fine at all anymore.  I believe it started 2 updates ago...beginning of the fall...September?  Thanks for trying to help me.

Yes with GPU off, there are things you can't do. However, your GPU is likely not powerful enough to perform the tasks LrC is requesting it to perform. A newer more powerful GPU would help.

It's new enough that it should work though (albeit pretty slow at denoise ai) and not give artefacts like this. I would guess this might be a hardware issue and not a problem with age or capability.

one thing to try is to turn off graphics switching and only allow it to use the Radeon or the embedded gpu (there is a setting for this in system preferences in the energy section). Perhaps only one of the two has an issue.
