Masking tool has stopped working properly

Hey there,

First of all, I am sorry if this question has already been asked and/or replied but I can't seem to find a way to fix my problem:

I have recently bought a new camera (went from Nikon D700 to Sony Alpha 7 IV). Ever since that change, the masking tool doesn't seem to be able to recognize subjects automatically and I end up having to select each item that I want to edit with radial mask. As you can see on attached picture, as I attempted to select only the plate on the right hand corner, the tool selects a huge square area instead. This function used to work perfectly with my previous camera.

Is there something that I would need to change in the program's settings?

A huge thanks in advance if you can help me.

Working from lightroom classic version 12.1 on a pc w/ windows 11

Most problems with AI masking are caused by older, buggy graphics drivers. Try updating your graphics driver by going directly to the manufacturer's web site:

If that doesn't help, please copy/paste here the entire contents of the LR menu command Help > System Info -- that will let us see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running.

First, try disabling GPU in the preferences (Performance) or alter the settings. Any better?


If turning OFF the GPU works, it's a GPU bug, and you need to contact the manufacturer or find out if there's an updated driver for it. This is why disabling GPU is an option as more and more functionality moves to the GPU in newer versions of many Adobe products. Disable third-party graphics accelerators. Third-party GPU overclocking utilities and haxies aren't supported.

That didn't help. As I said, it worked perefctly before I changed ma camera so could it be related to that?
