I have my photos saved by LR6 to external hard drive. I now wish to access these photos and folder structure on a new computer running LRC. I attach the external hard drive to the new computer but the photos and folder structure do not appear. If I open the import tab, they are there, but how do I get LRC to access them? Do I use ADD, and if so will the folder structure appear as on my old computer running LR6? At present, I cannot use LRC as I cannot access my photos.

You don't have Lr 6 save (I think you mean "export") the photos to an external drive. Instead, you use the Lr 6 catalog file, move that to the new computer and then open it in Lightroom Classic. (It will ask if you want to upgrade, you say YES or whatever the affirmative is). Then, you may have to re-connect the photos inside LrC, see https://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm

Yes, you are right. I exported photos to my external hard drive with LR6. However when I attach that external hard drive to my new computer running LRC, I can only see the photos and folder structure after pressing the import button. For LRC to work on these photos, it needs to "find" them. Do I use the ADD button to enable LRC to find the photos on the external hard drive? If so, will my folder structure remain the same?

You do not do this via exported photos. As I said, you need to copy the Lr 6 catalog to the new computer and then open it in Lightroom Classic.

Many thanks. I will try to find the LR 6 catalog file on my old computer and copy it to my new one.
