After the last update of Lightroom Classic I've obviously missed nearly all my pictures from 2004 to 2021 (40.000). How do I manage to replace them?

It's likely that you have opened a new Catalog during the update. Please post some additional information.

What version of Lightroom Classic were you using prior to the update?
What version is now installed, the actual version numeric, do not say latest?

Hi Paul,

Thanks for reaching out. We are sorry for the trouble with Lightroom Classic. I'd love to help you figure this out.

It could be a different or a new catalog that has been opened in Lightroom Classic.

Lightroom Catalog is a database file with the file-extensions suffix of {.LRCAT}

Use your computer's file browser to search all for {?.LRCAT} files to list down all & any catalogs on your computer.

Please check the steps shared here: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/recover-catalog-images-resetting-lightroom.html

You can also check the steps shared by one of our Adobe Community Professionals in this similar discussion thread: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/catalog-on-lr-find/m-p/11352242#M196997

Let us know if this helps,

Thanks!

LATEST

You have most likely (accidentally) upgraded the wrong catalog file. Go to File->Open  Recent and try upgrading the catalog(s) shown there. If taht doesn't work, use your operating system's search feature to search all folders on all disk(s) to find files whose name ends with .LRCAT and open each one of those until you find the catalog you want.
