My computer 'died' after eight years serving me well, using Lightroom5 regularly. I now have a new PC running Windows11. I then installed Lightroom5 (purchased from Amazon a few years ago) on the new PC but I'm unable to open NEF files in LR. I managed to import photos, but they could not be viewed. A pop up note reads "The files are not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom. (162)".
I'm using the same camera, Nikon D750, and had no problems opening NEF files in LR on the old computer (Windows 10).
I hope there's a solution to this as I can't see why my NEF files are no longer recognised.
Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

Did you install from the disk you got from Amazon? That would have installed Lightroom version 5.0.
The latest version of Lightroom version 5 is 5.7.1 and you may need to update to the latest.

Adobe doesn't publish download links for old versions, but you can download 5.7.1 from this trusted site:

Pay attention to "Note: Very Important Instructions".

Thanks John. I did that but still got the same ""The files are not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom". It just doesn't recognize NEF files.
Anyway, I've now decided to give up with Adobe Lightroom - it's not worth the aggravation. I've never had problems till now after installing on my new PC. ....However, I would probably have ditched LR as I would soon have to be paying for a subscrption, but I need a photo editor so I'm switching to Skylum which is highly recommended, and I believe you buy it with no subscription needed. So byebye Adobe!

Install Lr 5.7.1 from the download installation files here: https://prodesigntools.com/lightroom-5-ddl-comparison-vs-lr4.html
Do yourself a favor and save this download installer file for your future use; save it someplace you can still get (like the cloud, or external HD) to it if your computer dies or is stolen or abducted by space aliens.
