Did you start in LrC, and select to Edit in Photoshop? Or did you start in Photoshop. And no, that is not clear.

How did you save it? Do not use 'Save as' and change the name, always use 'Save'. And make sure that you are not using a filter or a smart collection in Lightroom, that might filter out the returned Photoshop file (like a filter on raw files), because then it only looks like the photo was not saved back to Lightroom.

What kind of photo is it? Is it a jpeg perhaps? And did you use 'Edit Original'? If Photoshop uses 'Save as' when you try to use 'Save', then that usually is because your edits made using 'Save' impossible. For example because you opened a jpeg and added a layer. Jpeg does not support layers, so you can't use 'Save' in that situation.

I have used raw photos and tif.  I have not had this problem until approximately four weeks ago.  I have used Lightroom for a very long time and have not had this issue.

Well, if you use 'Save as' and you do not change the suggested file name and do not change the location, then it shouldn't really matter. Just check in the external editor preferences that the file format (psd, tiff) corresponds with what Photoshop does.

You stated that when you click on Save, in PS, that PS changes that to "Save As". Do you see something on your screen that indicates that, or is that based on the results?

Can you create a video capture of that?

Also, wondering about any possible plugin (in PS) that might be getting in the way. This due to my ongoing search in the community for your issue. From that, see:

Thanks I may have found a way I can work around this.  I do not know if this has something to do with the way windows 11 is doing  the path.  I moved my photos to one external dive and the Lightroom calalog to that drive it now works like I thank it should.

"after I check the save box"

What is a "Save Box"? I do not see one.

After I edit in Photoshop (any photo sent from Lightroom-Classic) I simply-

Press [CTRL + S]  or from the MENU > File > Save.

Then [Ctrl+W] to Close the TIF/PSD in Photoshop.

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.0, Photoshop 27.0, ACR 18.0, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0 .

Same thing is happening to me.  I started in LR, used "Edit in Photoshop".  I used Save, couldn't find it, then used Save As.  I also saved it to another folder and I could not find it.  Changed its name.  Finder did find it!  It's there, but Lightroom does not want to show it.  I also used "Syncronize Folder".  Restarted my Mac.  First time this ever happens to me.  This was a Canon R7 Raw file.  Hope you can figure this out.
