Hello I have an old version of lightroom 5.7.1. It still works on my old macbook. Can i upgrade that to a newer version in some kind of perpetual license as opposed to the cloud, or is everything now monthly payment / cloud based.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Adobe does not sell perpetual licenses. Any upgrade to the current software named Lightroom Classic, which is not cloud based, and runs on your local computer with photos stored on your local computer, would involve purchasing a subscription. Please do not confuse "cloud software" with subscription, these are not the same, as stated Lightroom Classic is subscription but is not cloud software.

Thank you so much for your reply, it is appreciated.
I thought that was the case.
Personally I think that is is very short sighted of Adobe. Catering more to professionls and Adobes desire to make more money than to think of all who have used their products only occaionally. Loyalty seems to mean little to Adobe.
For other software, because of this i have gone to Affinity. I imagine many have.. A great product without spending a small fortune for us occasional users.
Again thank you for your reply.

I am not a professional, and I feel Adobe's software offerings meet my needs.
