I set up a new catalog and then imported photos on Lightroom Classic.  The folder structure that I imported to was

D: Pictures 2023/04 April 2023  (selected as the destination for imported files).  On import, a new folder is being created adding a folder called 2023 as well as a date folder.  The structure is now Pictures 2023/04 April 2023/2023/2023-02-24.  The date folder is 'normal' as the location for the files downloaded, but WHY is it also creating the 2023 folder??  I previously used a desktop version of lightroom, and it did not add this extra miscellaneous folder.

Maybe an explanation of the 'Date' formats will help.

If you use any Date Preset format that contains a forward slash (as in my screen-clip) then LrC will automatically find, (or create), the Year/Date  UNDER the FOLDER you SELECTED in the Destination panel.

eg. if you use the format 2023/04-25 and then-

a) Select a 2023 folder as Destination, you will get:  2023/2023/05-25, or 2023/2023/2023/05-25, etc.

b) Select the 'Parent' folder(eg. Pictures), you will get Pictures/2023/05-25. (the correct structure)

2023-04-25 09_11_18-Clipboard.jpg

For the four formats without a /  -YOU need to select/highlight parent folder for the folder of imports. eg. if you use "2023-04-25" then YOU need to highlight the 2023 folder in the Destination panel.

Check your options for the import. And keep an eye on the Destination panel that will indicate to you exactly where your files (with the check mark) will be located- you may need to scroll down.
