And you version of LrC is...?  Previous versions (I don't remember which) only stored an 'Original FileName' if you only renamed the file AFTER importing. If the Import dialog renamed files in the import dialog, then the re-name became the 'FileName', and the Original FileName field was blank.

With a CUSTOM Default metadata preset you can view the "Preserved File Name" which saves the correct filename if you Rename DURING Import.

I've check this and I see the original file name  (point 2 in the screenshot) in the Metadata panel. Make sure that you have set the Exif and ITPC options in the lust (point 1 in screenshot). Make also sure that you don't have choose a preset. Set "None" in the appropriate list (point 3 in the screenshot).

I don't think there's ever been an change here. In other words - LR only stores or displays an 'Original FileName' if you renamed the file AFTER importing.

Hi Bob - question for you:

In LrC 14.1.1, I go to Library > Metadata > Customize > Customize Metadata Default Panel, and am able to check the Preserve File Name box. So the next time I went to import new images, upon import, I went to Apply During Import > Metadata > New OR Edit Presets - and either way, the Preserve File Name doesn't come up as an option. What am I missing here? Is there a different way to be sure the original filename is accessible on renamed images (whether done during import, edits, or export)?

In case it's helpful, I import IMG_1234.cr2 images, and export them as ABC-1.jpg, ABC-2.jpg. I want to be able to access the IMG_1234 filename when viewing the exported ABC-1.jpg image.

(Attaching screenshots of the Default Panel and Presets for reference.)

Thanks so much!
