P: Contact sheet with captions won't save layout

With Lightroom 4.1 I've been trying to print 2 column, 2 row contact sheets with captioned images. When I get the cell size right to include the whole caption and try to Update With Current Settings, the layout reverts to showing only a single line on the caption. If I get the layout right on the first page, subsequent pages only show a single line of the caption. My workaround is to adjust and print each page separately. This is OK for making prints, but not for making a multi-page PDF.

I have LR5.2 and the multi-line issue is still present. I can get more than one line to display & print if I have Photo Info ticked and I select my custom info to display. If I then update my User Template with the current settings, the contact images resort to a single line (and will print that way too). The workaround I use is to select another Photo Info (anyone) then select the desired one again and all lines are displayed / printed. I've only tried to print one page so far, so I don't know if subsequent pages will print true. It's ridiculous that LR versions continues to inherit previous bugs and anomalies. There are plenty of users reporting back, but these niggly bugs don't seem to be addressed in such a professional application.

I posted a problem report with the title "Lightroom print module does not print multiple lines of text on contact sheets" at http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...

Add yourself to that page as another user having this problem. If enough people have the problem that may encourage Adobe to fix it.

The problem still exists in Lightroom 5.

Thank you to Douglas Johnson for the tweak that fixes it. One addition to his fix: you can toggle either Zoom to Fill or Rotate to Fit to get all lines of text to show but this sometimes works only on the page being displayed. You should CHECK EACH PAGE of your printout and toggle Zoom to Fill on each page as necessary to get all lines to display on every page. (To show multiple pages in the Print module, press T if necessary to show the Toolbar below the image, then press the left and right arrows on the toolbar to page through your printout.)

Adobe really should fix this.

Is also discussed here:

(Where Brett N -Staff+++seems to ignore that this is a acknowledged bug, and is unable to reproduce it on his side)

Ack! I'm having the same problem. I have 500 photos to print to jpeg. And if I get the multi lines perfect on the photo and click on another, it goes back to one line. I can't print each photo individually, it will take forever. This is driving me crazy. Please fix this!

Jiggering the layout (e.g., by toggling Keep Square on and off) causes the lines to display. However, you must do this FOR EACH PAGE, which is very annoying for a print job that can run for 20 - 100 pages.

Apparently, this bug has existed for over 3 years. It's still there in the 2015.3 release.

Does Adobe pay any attention to their own forum? There seems to be no other way to report a bug.

In LR4.2, need to print contact sheets. Have used Edit... to create Custom Settings to include Original Filename, Title, Caption, and Keywords. Using a 10 pt. font, this string takes more than one line for a complete display. I've saved this as a Preset.

Say with a single image selected, only the first line of Photo Info is displayed. While I haven't tested every combination, if I use the cursor to make a tiny adjustment to the bottom edge of the photo cell, the image changes and all the specified Photo Info appears, usually taking 3 - 4 lines of text. If I leave the Print Module for another module then return, having done nothing else, the display is back to only one line of Photo Info.

Another observation: With only one line of Photo Info displayed, if I toggle "Zoom to Fit" in either direction, it causes all of the specified Photo Info to be displayed.

My belief is that such manual "tweaking" should not be necessary to achieve display of all the Photo Info selected.

Thank you for considering this problem. I would welcome instruction for how to avoid if available. I've tried to research the Adobe LR Forum, Evening's LR3 text, and several google searches.

Frans,

Thanks for this. I've just read through the thread and can comment that it used to work (though that was back in 2009 so maybe LR2 or early 3?) the project I've now returned to printed perfectly back then.

Unfortunately your work around of Keep Square won't work for my format but when I try changing the cell spacing, which does make the text appear in full, the photos display at different sizes depending upon if they have one or two lines. Then the only way to get everything to line up is to click to another module and then return to Print. Whereupon everything lines up square but I've lost line two.

I guess it's one for Adobe to fix.

I have a contact sheet of portraits to print out and am trying to print a caption under each. Some captions are short but others take up two lines. Lightroom does not print (or display) the second line.

It does show all the caption the first time I select {caption} from the Photo info dialog. Then if I swap modules or when I try to print it, it lines up all of the photos with a single line of text and the additional text is ignored.

I don't think I've got any conflicting settings. Is it me or a bug?
