On Windows 11, after trying the Photoshop Beta released in May 2023, I found that the Beta version was selected by Lightroom Classic (Version 12.2) as the default editor for Photoshop, instead of the installed Version 24.5.0, that I had been using. Under Preferences > External Editing, Photoshop 2023 appeared as the default Photoshop editor not the beta version. It was not possible to switch back to the non-beta version. I uninstalled the Photoshop Beta and rebooted windows which did not solve the problem. I then uninstalled and reinstalled both Photoshop 24.4.0 and Lightroom classic. Now there was no ability to run Photoshop as the editor as under the Preferences > External Editing it was greyed out and not possible to select any version.
The final solution was to uninstall Photoshop and Lightroom again and seleting the options to delete all the setting files. I then deleted the c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2023 and c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom Classic directories. I then rebooted Windows 11 and reinstalled both Photoshop first and then Lightroom Classic. This solved the problem but I had to reinstall my plugins and Actions. This set of operations took about and hour to finish.
Althought the new Photoshop Beta was interesting, I will never install another Adobe beta version program.

I suspect this involves an error in the Windows registry. And that other user have a similar problem, where the beta copy could not be selected (yes the opposite problem) and a registry fix is involved. I do not have a link fir you just now, but a bit of searching in the community will probably help.

Thanks for the info. However, will editing the registry may fix the problem, the problem was caused by the installation program for the beta most likely and Adobe needs to address the issue.
