Have discovered that the only thing I can do with this collage is to print it.  I cannot export it or bring it into the library.  Does this sound right?

You can Print it to JPEG and then bring it into your Library.  Change the Print to: pulldown to JPEG File instead of Printer

You can also 'preserve' your collage layout as a 'Print Collection' in the catalog by [Create Saved Print]. This enables you to recall the layout, including the 'saved' photos, to reprint (to paper or JPG) from LrC at any time in the future.

And don't forget to save your collage layouts as Print Templates.

I did print to jpeg and did create a saved print.  I set a collection as a target collection.  hen i went to add collage to that collection only one image went into it.

I should admit at this point that Adobe technical support also said that the only thing I could do with the collage was to print it.  f I wanted to include into the Library I would have to use Photoshop.

"If I wanted to include into the Library I would have to use Photoshop."-  No that is not correct.  @Rikk Flohr: Photography  gave you a correct answer above by setting the [Print Job] to "JPEG/JPG" and after creating the JPG- Import the collage JPG back into the Catalog (either by using the Import dialog, or doing a Folder Synchronization.)

"I set a collection as a target collection. Then i went to add collage to that collection only one image went into it." No, that is not how it is done! Instead you create your Collage in the Print module, including placing (dragging) your photos from the Filmstrip into the cells of the Collage- Then Click the [Create Saved Print] on the tab. This creates a specific 'Print Collection' with those specific photos, for recall at a later date. You can however add more photos to a 'Saved Print Collection' but you would still need to drag photos from the Filmstrip to 'update' the Print Collection.

If you want to use the same layout of the collage in future with different photos it might be better to-

1) Design your Collage with cells on the page,

2) Save a Template

3) For the next collage you want- Select photos from any Collection (to which you can add more), open the Print Module, choose your Template from the Template panel and drag photos from the Filmstrip.

I almost have it.  Finally discovered PRINT TO FILE.  I saved the collage to a folder in the library but when I went to the folder I only see the separate individual images from the collage- not the finished collage.

[Print to File] will save your collage image to a folder (that you nominate) on the hard-drive, but it does NOT add it into the LrC Catalog.

This you have to do by Importing the new file, either by the Import dialog, or (if you saved it to a Folder that exists in the Catalog)- do a [Synchronize Folder] action on the folder.
