Problems with tethering

As of the recent update to lightroom classic, the tether function is not working properly for me.
When I try to start a tethered capture, the dialog box opens to set up the new tether, where to put/name files, etc. However after pressing ok, the tether toolbar does not appear, nor does it appear that my camera is recognized as being plugged in.
Has anyone experienced this issue, or is there anything I can try to resolve this?

Assuming your camera is a Canon, then a bug exists, and Adobe states to make sure the Nikon Tether plugin is installed and enabled.

Go figure, Nikon plugin when using a Canon
