"Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo"

I'm on LRC version 13.1 (latest)
Mac OS Sonoma 14.3 (latest)

Keep getting error messages... when trying to export it hangs, eventually error message " Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo" or "this file is damaged or corrupt".
Have checked for updates for Mac and LRC and I'm on the latest versions, have closed app and restarted, and then rebooted, nothing helps.

Please assist, I'm on a deadline, TIA

Where are these photos located? If on an external drive, then that drive (or its cable) may have a problem.

Run diagnostics on your hard disk to determine if there is a problem there. Also test the connection to determine if another USB port or another cable makes the problem go away.

Were the photos taken on an Apple device and/or exported from the Mac Photos app?

Photo's were taken on a Nikon camera and then transfered from that SD card to an external hard drive, then imported to LRC from the external HD directly to save space on my MAC hard drive

Hi, I have the same issue, only with iPhone photos. Nikon *.NEFs in the same folder are recognized without any issues.

You're probably tripping over a recent incompatibility between Apple photo software and LR.

Are you exporting the photos from the Mac Photos app before importing them into LR?  If not, describe in detail path the photos take from the phone into LR.  Based on that, I can likely provide a workaround.

Hello,

I was exporting a jpg from the MAC photos app (the original was HEIC) to a folder.  Later synced the folder with LRC.

Thanks for your help!
