As of today my Lightroom Catalog wont open. When i click the Lightroom Icon i get the following error message:

"Unxexpected Error Opening Catalog"

"The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error"

This started just after the neweest update to 8.3.1

I have tried everything:

-Restarting computer.

-Reinstalling the previous version of lightroom

-Opening as administrator

-Opening directly via the catalog

-Removing/deleting the .lock file

Nothing works.

It will allow me to run lightroom with a brand new catalog, but wont allow me to open the original/default one i use.

Please help.

Unless I misread the date you posted this, that statement is incorrect. As latest would be v9.3

P.S. the word "latest" is considered a filthy word by many on this community page.

moving on

In the catalog that works, with LrC running, click on Help, then System Inf, then Copy. Please Paste that into a reply.

Also, I am a bit suspicious that your copy of Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App might be an o,d one that had issues presenting users with correct update info for LrC.

see: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/release-note/cc-release-notes.html

Current version looks like : https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/desktop-app.html

If your copy is old and will not update then see:

https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html

Take a recent backup copy of your catalog file, unzip it, and place it in a different folder than the original, see if that catalog file will open. If that doesn't work, place the unzipped catalog backup on a different disk than the original, see if that will open.

When you place it on a different disk, you have to double-click on the unzipped backup catalog file to open it. Is that what you did?

Wher is the old  catalog stored? Drive and parent folder name.

Is the new catalog in the same drive, same parent folder?

Both catalogs are in the same folder, the default folder when using Lightroom, ive never changed any file structure, been using Lightroom on this Mac for 7 years now. The folder is called Lightroom.

LATEST

radiohead 3 "and reloaded my catalog from my NAS"

Do you mean you copied a backup you keep on your NAS to your hard drive?

or, do you mean you ran your catalog that is on your NAS?

Adobe does not support running the catalog on a NAS, or any network server. Catalogs kept on and run a NAS tyicaly get corrupted at some point.

If it is just the backup, then sure, great, never mind.
