Issue: In the Develop module, when using "Set as reference photo" in HDR mode, the image displays in HDR instead of SDR despite the "Preview for SDR display" being checked, making the comparison ineffective. This occurs whether the "Soft Proof" option is selected or not.

Provide Lightroom Classic version: Lightroom Classic version 13.3 [202405092057-40441e28]

Provide OS and version: macOS Monterey v. 12.6.8

Issue:

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open Lightroom Classic and go to the Develop module.
  2. In the Basic panel, enable the HDR toggle.
  3. Ensure "Preview for SDR display" is checked.
  4. Select a photo (HDR, Standard preview, etc.).
  5. Right-click and select "Set as reference photo".
  6. Click the "Reference view" button to open the reference photo.
  7. Test both scenarios: with "Soft Proof" selected and with "Soft Proof" not selected.

Expected result: The reference photo should be displayed in SDR mode as per the "Preview for SDR display" setting, regardless of whether "Soft Proof" is selected or not.

Actual result: The reference photo is displayed in HDR, ignoring the "Preview for SDR display" setting, which makes comparison difficult and ineffective. This occurs both when "Soft Proof" is selected and when it is not.

Please find attached a screenshot demonstrating the issue.
