Renaming Virtual Copies

Community Beginner ,
Jun 13, 2025 Jun 13, 2025

I often like to have two copies of a photo - one in color and one in black and white. After I create virtual copies, I want to rename the black&whites before publishing for my clients. For example, the color photos may be titled: Anna-1, Anna-2, etc. When I try to change the black & white virtual copies to be Anna-1-BW, Anna-2-BW, Lightroom automatically changes the originals to these same names. So the color photos are now labeled with my "BW" addition. How can I name these virtual copies so they have separate names from the originals? Thanks.

Hi @christineh55539920!
Could you try going to the Metadata panel, then click the Customize button at the bottom? From there, enable the option called "Copy Name." That should add a new field where you can rename copies without changing the original photo.

Hope that does the trick—let me know how it goes!
