Reverse Geolocation Not Working in Lightroom Classic

Community Beginner ,
Jun 02, 2025 Jun 02, 2025
The reverse geolocation feature in LrC is not working. While GPS coordinates are present and visible in the Metadata panel and Map module, the corresponding location names (e.g., city, state, country) are not being populated as expected.
I’ve verified that:
  • The “Look up city, state, country...” option is checked in Catalog Settings > Metadata.
  • I have a stable internet connection.
  • GPS coordinates are correctly embedded in the images.
  • I am using the latest version of Lightroom Classic.
Despite this, Lightroom Classic does not display location names in the Metadata panel, even after waiting or manually reloading the metadata.
Any suggestions?

Hi @Sarah299311046jnf, welcome to the community!

Thanks for reaching out! Could you share a few more details about the issue you're seeing? Is it happening with all your photos or just certain ones? Also, what camera model did you use to take them?

Hi @Sarah299311046jnf, welcome to the community!

Thanks for reaching out! Could you share a few more details about the issue you're seeing? Is it happening with all your photos or just certain ones? Also, what camera model did you use to take them?

When you get a chance, please double-check that the option “Look up city, state, and country of GPS coordinates to provide address suggestions” is enabled under Catalog Settings > Metadata. Also, make sure “Address Lookup” in the Activity Center is running and not paused.

Let us know what you find, happy to help!

One confusing gotcha: After changing Catalog Settings > Look Up ... GPS Coordinates To Provide Address Suggestions, or after pausing or resuming Address Lookup in the upper-left corner identity plate (those are the same setting), you must restart LR for the change to take affect. Bizarrely, Adobe considers that silent requirement "as designed".
