In the Library module....I have a large file of images that I am organizing into Collections and adding new Collections at the same time. When the images of the file are in the filmstrip and grid view there is a sequence number in the top left of the image. I do not believe this is part of a Metadata. I cannot seem to search using this number. I place images into Collections and at the same time I sometimes add a new Collection on a different subject. When I go back to the filmstrip it is not where I left off. I have to start from image #1 and scroll until I find the last i mage I put ino a Collection. It would be great to be able to Search using the simple number in the top left corner of the filmstrip image. Can this be done? Thanks,Steve
That index number is something I have turned off, as I perceive it having little value (I can see some cases where it might help, but those don't apply to me). But I'm pretty sure you can't search (for example) for image number 147.
If you filmstrip jumps back to the first image always, change the sort order of the filmstrip to something that works better (perhaps Capture Date or File Name).
To build on dj_paige's reply, the index numbers in the upper-left corner aren't searchable, since they merely number the images currently displayed in Grid view and the filmstrip. E.g. if you filter Grid view to display a subset of the current source's images, the index numbers change.
You can turn them off via View > View Options > Index Number and Preferences > Interface > Filmstrip > Show Index Number.

Consider the Any Source plugin, which provides a Back To Previous Source/Filter/Selection command that takes you to a previous combination of source (folder or collection), filter settings, and selection. It keeps a history, so you can go back steps in the history. I assign it Ctrl + B.
