I can't add music to my slideshow and get the error that the music file is not well formed.

This seems to be recurring problem over the years.

I am frustrated as there doesn't appear to be a solution.

I have tried on a number of occasions and with a variety of MP3 files.

I can create slideshows in pdf and video.

I usually add mp3 format music to my slideshow, which has worked really well for years.

The files on Mac are often m4p files, I think? You download them from Apple Music? If so, slideshow will not accept them.

You can try TuneCable Apple Music Converter. It's a program I personally use for a long time. It helps me convert Apple Music to MP3 format, so I can use them in anywhere I want. Furthermore, it also has format converter function, so I can use it to convert local music files to other formats.
