Hi
I am using Lightroom classic Ver 13.3.1 and it is really slow to start when opening, around 2 minutes before the screen is functional. I am using a 17 inch HP laptop 8 months old ,it has 32gig of ram terabyte hard drive (SSD) and Intel iris XE is there any way of sppeding lightroom up, once it is running it is fine but just getting to the start screen takes an age. I have also noticed that if you move to the top menu,s it is slow. EG Preferences. I have used it with the graphic card enable and disabled no difference.
Using photoshop is fast and I have other Photo progs and they run very fast but lightroom is a total pain.
Any help will be really appreciated, thanks

1. Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut out as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs and it takes up vast amounts of scroll space making the reply less readable and less likely that others will bother with your post.
2. And an additional inquiry. The hard drive your catalog is on, how much free space in percent, And I do mean %. Looking for at least 20% free, some say 25% free.
P.S.
Using photoshop is fast and I have other Photo progs and they run very fast but lightroom is a total pain
LrC is a known resource hog, PS is not. Comparing LrC performance to PS performance is of no value. It is like comparing the most demanding 3D game to playing solitaire

Your System Info indicates that your computer doesn't meet the minimum specification. In fact, if true, it's a miracle that LrC even launches.
Your GPU is an integrated Intel XE known to be underpowered, and only has 128MB allocated to it.

The Intel Iris Xe Graphics GPUs share main memory with the CPU, so in fact they use much more than 128 MB. How much they actually use is decided dynamically by the operating system and graphics drivers, with the maximum amount set in the BIOS.
So we can't really tell whether a particular system meets the minimum required 2 GB, since System Info isn't displaying that information. There are many reports here of people successfully using Intel and AMD integrated GPUs with shared memory.
I agree that family of GPUs has low performance, but I don't think it's the cause of the the slow startup:
"once it is running it is fine but just getting to the start screen takes an age. "

Thanks for the reply and yes it makes me wonder because once it is running I can make the adjustment without problem it is just the start up what bugs me nearly 2 minutes to get to the home screen is a joje.

Over the years there have been several different cycles of reports about slow startup, with different causes. I just reviewed some of those reports, and there are couple of possibilities that might affect you. Please copy/paste the entire Help > System Info here so we can see the omitted sections.

I don't see any of the indicators from the older threads. But you might try the following:
1. Disable all plugins: In File > Plug-In Manager, select each plugin in turn and in the Status panel in the right column, click Disable. Restart LR. Does the problem go away?
2. Delete the Helper.lrdata folder:
a) Do Catalog Settings > General > Show to open Finder / File Explorer on the current catalog folder.
b) Exit LR.
c) In that folder, delete the folder "<catalog> Helper.lrdata".
d) Restart LR, and it will rebuild the folder.
The Helper.lrdata folder caches information about metadata, keywords, folders, collections, and other things to speed the performance of LR, including startup, and it can sometimes get corrupted. In recent versions, LR has used it more heavily to improve the speed of displaying metadata, and there have been a fair number of bugs with it.

Thanks for the instruction, I did as was asked and unfortunately the same problems exist. I have actually time how long it takes to get to the develop screen from start and it is 1 min 12 seconds. Then once on the home screen I go into preferences it takes 16 seconds for the screen to show.
I put lightroom classic on my 12 year old desktop which has 16 gig of ram and a I7 gen 4 processor and it it twice as fast as my laptop which has 32 gig ram and I7 gen 12 processor weird. On my desktop I turn graphics processor off.

Is the slow behaviour new or has it always been the case?
BTW, I'm still of the opinion that the amount of memory that LrC has memory to for GPU is a major part of your problem. It may be that something in your hardware configuration is preventing memory being alocated to the GPU. As things stand, the amount of memory availaible is just sufficient for display purposes.

I suspect that the information reported by Help > System Info may not be meaningful or have the same interpretation when the GPU shares main memory.

With shared memory systems using integrated Intel GPUs we normally see 1.5-2GB of memory available to LrC. In this instance it's 128MB.

It appears that System Info regularly reports 128.0MB as the maximum amount of dedicated GPU memory used by Intel integrated GPUs, even when it reports currently using much more than that (percentages greater than 100%):

I have just tried LR on my 12 year old desktopthis is the spec file is their much difference to the laptop as this boots in about 30 specs

Just been trying many things nothing works but I have noticed when startingL/R/C I get the splash screen instantly then at the very to it shows in brackets ( not responding) this shows for about 30 seconds then goes off and Lightroom eventually loads, also while it is showing not responding if I click on the screen it comes up asking me if I want to quit the programme or wait click wait ant it eventually boots into LR

I switched off Avast and also my vpn no difference however never tried windows defender how do I switch that off will it be a bit risky?
