Hello all...

I recently upgraded from Sony A7rii to A7riv.  I'm trying to import into LR Classic (v6.14).

  • I tried importing directly from my SD card.  Message: "files cannot be opened by Lightroom."
  • I imported to Sony's Imaging Edge Desktop (IEDT), then exported ARWs onto external drive.  Tried importing into LR from this external drive.  Same message.
  • I have not tried importing directly from my A7riv into Lightroom.   Should I?

Thanks for advice everyone.

Rob

I recently upgraded from Sony A7rii to A7riv.

So, a Sony A7R IV.

Per the Adobe documentation:

LrC v8.4.1 is required as a minimum. Old no longer supported v 6.14 will not work. Hence the error message.

Current LrC is v 13.3, And it is a subscription only product.

If you decide to subscribe to an Adobe Plan, be advised that your old v6.14 is now Lightroom Classic (as stated, currently v 13.3) and NOT Lightroom. Do not confuse the two (Blame Adobe marketing on the product name confusion). And the Lightroom Classic (LrC) is available int the Adobe Photography Plan (and a few more expensive Plans) and NOT the Adobe Lightroom Plan (just Lightroom Ecosystem also know as Lightroom Cloud Based)

If you do not want to subscribe, then you will need to do one of the following

  • Convert the RAW files outside of LrC to DNG (various ways)
  • Shoot in JPEG not RAW (yep a very poor idea)
  • Purchase a different Post Processor application (some of which are now subscription as well, blame Adobe)

Thank you, very useful!  I've already converted to DNG outside of LR, and hope to be back in business - so to speak - soon.
