I have Lightroom Classic installed on both my desktop and my laptop (up to date, 12.5 on Windows 10 machines. When I open the "Develop" module on the laptop, all of Lightroom's standard presets (plus some I've purchased) are there in the left hand column. On my desktop, no presets show. Any idea why this might be or what I can do to fix it?

Lightroom Classic presets do not sync, so custom presets won't show on your desktop if you did not install them on that computer as well. Default presets should obviously show. Do note that Lightroom Classic does not show any presets at all if you go to the Develop module without having an image selected, however.

Thanks, Johan. I'll attach a partial screenshot of the left panel of lightroom in Develop module. As you can see, I have a photo open but no presets show. I expect there is some really simple answer, but I'm baffled.

Your presets panel is hidden. Right-click on an empty part of one of the other panel headers. That will show you a contextual menu where you can toggle the visibility of the panels. Or use the menu 'Window - Panels - Presets'.

Brilliant! Thank you so much. Worked like a charm!
