This problem is driving me crazy. I rate portraits with stars on my camera (Canon R6). The stars appear on the camera display, but when I import the photos into Lightroom, the stars disappear.
I've already checked the box in the Metadata section. I've also unchecked it, but the stars seem to no longer be imported. I'm not sure if it could be an update. It worked perfectly before, and I didn't change anything.
I'm using a memory card reader. I would really appreciate it in advance if anyone could help me.

What do you mean with "I've already checked the box in the Metadata section."? This sounds like you apply a metadata preset on import, that removes the star rating.

Thanks for the answer, Johan.
What I meant was: I've already tested with the box options checked and I've also tried with all those options unchecked. And yet ratings/stars are no longer imported.
It's strange because before, in addition to Lightroom importing stars, it still showed photos with stars before even importing them. It showed in the import preview (when we insert the card and it shows us that library where we can choose which photos to import, etc.).
It's a problem that has caused a lot of inconvenience because in a long portrait session, I choose the photos with the people photographed and then I need to copy the classification manually, looking at the starred photos in the camera and marking them manually in Lightroom. I recently needed to do this with 1600 files. It's crazy.
Thanks again to you and anyone who can help with an answer.

Can you post a screenshot of the import dialog? Make a proper screenshot (not a picture of your screen) and embed it in the message please, using this button: . Do not attach it.

Here. Two screenshots: one of the window and next to the window corresponding to the preset.
As I said, even with all the options checked, the star ratings are not imported.
Let me know if you need another screenshot or other information.
Thanks!

In your preset, you do not show the star rating. However, judging from the Basic Info and Camera Info panels, I am pretty sure you made the same mistake for star ratings too. You checked the boxes for all the fields in the Basic and Camera panels, but there is nothing in those fields in the preset. That means that if the camera has added something in those fields (like GPS for example), this preset will strip that info because it replaces it by empty fields. It even says so in the field: "Type to add, leave blank to clear". So if your camera had built-in GPS, you would complain here that Lightroom Classic clears the GPS coordinates on import... I am sure you did the same thing for the star rating field!

Wow! What should I do? Do I need to determine the number of stars? What do I write in this field?

I just realised that the Rating field is actually visible in your screenshot after all. What you need to do is simply uncheck these boxes in the metadata preset.

Wow, what kind of witchcraft is this? It worked!
But the strange thing is that I had already used another preset with all the options unchecked (I even mentioned it in the first text) and it hadn't worked. I had also tried leaving the "Metadata" window option as "None" and it hadn't worked.
Which also leads me to ask what caused the problem? Now every time I import, will I need to leave it in this preset (the one I edited and has the options unchecked)?
Anyway, I thank you very much Johan. I appreciate your patience and help. Thanks!

The strange thing is that I never touched this panel. The only changes that may have influenced the disappearance of the stars is that I started shooting with two cards, and I also chose to capture raw+jpeg. That's all.
I marked the stars in the preset, but it imports ALL the photos with the number of stars that I marked in the window.
I may have to resort to the old uninstallation and reinstallation of Lightroom Classic =/

@adrianom75834079 , you stated in your or original post, and in the the Thread header you refer to imported to "imported to desktop"
"when I import the photos into Lightroom, the stars disappear."
This is confusing as there are presently 2 versions of what was previously known as Lightroom through versions 1 to 6, since that time the new versions are Lightroom Classic (LrC) or Lightroom Desktop / Cloud based app (Lr).
To avoid miss understanding please refer to the app using the appropriate name of the app you are referring to.

That's right, I forgot that information. What I'm using, and what I'm having problems with, is Lightroom Classic (LrC).
