In some cases when I create a TIFF LZW file from TIFF, the size of the TIF LZW will be larger than the TIFF.

What explains this?

IF 16-bits yes, this has been reported. Best to stick with no compression with high bit TIFFs anyway.

Yes, no doubt you have a 16 bits/color tiff. LZW is designed for 8 bits files. It does not work well for 16 bits files and often even increases the file size.
