Perhaps you have (accidentally) hidden the side panels.
Try pressing Function Key 8 (F8) which toggles the Right-side panels visible or not. (F5 F6 F7 toggles the others)
Or you could Click on the small triangle on the extreme right-edge margin of Lightroom.
A Right-Click on the triangle will allow you to set options for panel visibility.

this is the classic "re-arrange the furniture on the blind guy" that developers love to play.....if you mouse the far right side of screen, the tools, etc will re-appear.....could have easily been added to the "View" menu where all display options have been placed FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS...way to go adobe

No, that's not the complete story. Like many other applications over the last 30 years, Lightroom puts a lot of window-related options in the Window menu. The controls you were looking for are under Window > Panels. Also, moving the pointer to the right edge of the screen isn't the only way to reveal them. The menus show you that you can also choose Window > Panels > Show Right Module Panels, or press the F8 keyboard shortcut shown for that command.
Two more ways you can see on the menus: If you press Tab, that does a Toggle Side Panels, so if you lose a panel you can just hit tab a couple times to hide or show those panels (Photoshop users have been pressing Tab to toggle panels for about 25 years). If you look at the keyboard shortcuts on the menus, you notice another useful panel tip: The function keys F5, F6, F7, and F8 are a convenient group, all in a row, that toggle the top, bottom, left, and right panels.

Adobe didn't change anything about the side panels show/hide, at least for a long time. The "dash" (your analogy) works like is always has and is still easily accesible.

I totally agree David. Trying to follow a thread longer than a few posts is an exercise in frustration. I am about ready to quit using the forum.

What I've grown to despise over the years is developers that fail to think like users; there should always be a meeting of those minds. The developers live their apps, we only use them. The fact that this hide-and-seek feature passed muster in a focus group and was maybe vetted with users while expert developers stood by and offered expert advice doesn't help the rank and file. Apps should follow a usability template so anyone can jump in, not just the LR designers with years of experience.
Get ready! An upgraded Adobe Community experience is coming in January.
