Ultra-slow export with "Add to Catalog" after updating to LR Classic

Something changed in Lightroom when the LR Classic appeared. There were some speedups, but the import was slowed down significatly, especially when exporting and using "Add to Catalog". I use it to create back-up JPGs and delete the original RAWs.

I have a very fast 8-core Windows computer, 32 GB RAM, etc..

So, select 400 files, export + "Add to Catalog":

Whan happened in the pre-Classic era:

Export is running, the files are immediately imported back and 1:1 previews are rendered (I don't need it, but there is no way to turn this off). At times there were up to about 6-7 tasks running in parallel - the export itself and others were the preview building task for various files at once.

What happens now:

Export is running, but there is at most 1 additional task generating preview for a single file. After the preview for single file is finished, a new task for building preview for another file is created. In settings I had checked the "Build previews in parallel", but that is not working here. After the export of those 400 files, there are only 200 exported file visible in the catalog. The new files are still being imported one-by-one, the next one is imported only AFTER THE PREVIEW of the current one is created. The CPU utilization is about 20 %. Last time it took additional 8 minutes (not counting the export) until all the remaining 200 exported files were visible in the catalog.

BUMP .... Has there ever been a solution to this?  I have had the same problem for so long now it is just so annoying.  You can't really do anything else in LR while the background add to catalog is happening because it resets everything after each image is added so you can't scroll or anything and when you are exporting 75-100 images it TAKES FOREVER and kills the entire efficiency of the process.

My setup is very similar to OP in that I have an export preset to rename, resize and place files in a sub folder of original folder and then add them to the catalog.  The export happens very quickly but the last part of adding the exported images back to the catalog is excruciatingly slow.  Please help!

The 1:1 preview building is very strange. You should not get that happen. I would try deleting your preference file. You seldomly need 1:1 previews. They are generally not useful and just slow stuff down except for some very specialist workflows that most people don't use.

Oh sorry. I did not notice these were from different people! I thought you were the OP trying to get the question back to the top.  Deleting your preferences file might help you too. I never auomatically import exports so I have never seen what you describe but I will try to see if I can reproduce.

Just started an export with add with the same settings and you are right that it is pretty annoying. The left interface (the folder list) jumps up and down at every single export. It does not seem to slow down the export but  does make working during the export annoying. You might be better off indeed to not do the add to catalog thing but to import manually after the export is finished. That will be way faster than this updating the entire interface after every exported file.

That is my current work around but it should work correctly.  By having it auto add (when it worked properly) I could then drag from that LR folder to my site to post the images instead of having to then do another step of syncing and then go to the folder to then be able to drag and drop.  I'm all about efficiency and it's frustrating when somethig seemingly so simple doesn't work right.
