Hi there,

I'm unable to drag and drop photos onto the map to add GPS data to them, nor can I right click on the map itself. I'm running Lightroom Classic CC version 8.1 on a Mac. It's really annoying!

Many thanks in advance

James

Why not? What happens if you try? Explain further.

I’m not quite sure why it happens, but when I drag the image from the bottom thumbnail strip to the location on the map it doesn’t add the GPS information like it previously did before updating. When I drag the image moves to the map, but nothing more.

Hope this helps

A number of people have reported problems with this. As a workaround, in the Map module, select one or more photos in the filmstrip, then right-click the location on the map and do Add GPS Coordinates To Selected Photos.

Please add your constructive opinion, including whether or not the workaround works for you, to this bug report in the official Adobe feedback forum: Lightroom Classic 8: Drag and drop GPS tagging not working. Right click on map also not working | Ph... Be sure to include whether the workaround works and the first ten lines from Help > System Info. Also, include the information requested by Adobe as described in this post: Lightroom Classic 8: Drag and drop GPS tagging not working. Right click on map also not working | Ph...  Finally, click Me Too and Follow in the upper-right corner.

Please continue any further discussion about this in the bug report rather than here, so that everyone concerned sees all the information.

I have exactly the same issue. Neither dragging nor right click "Add GPS Coordinates" help. 😞

I have the same problem. Just installed it and nothing happens. I try and drag it over, but it only clicks on one photo instead. When I right click on the map to add GPS coordinates to photos it also does not work.

Found out how to drag it to the map, but GPS location still does not work. I had to drag in the actual picture but not the frame around it. However a restart of the app solved it 😄

Let’s double check some version information, just in case.

In Lightroom, click on help, click on System Information, click on copy. Paste results into your reply

In your Plug-ins, and excelant that you included that info

The jf Geocoding Support

Check In the Plug-in manager for updates, and for errors. Going to the website Jeffrey Friedl's Blog » Jeffrey’s “Geoencoding Support” Plugin for Lightroom  shows lots of updates, including specific for LR v8, probably also for changes in a Google requirements (you remember google, the cause for breaking maps in LR pre v8) check your version against what is listed at Jeffrey’s

Oh. Big issue, in that website, in updates history:

”Well, an era has come to an end. Google has started to charge for services that used to be, very kindly of them, free. Now, the charges for the reverse-lookup feature are hundreds of dollars a month, and I just can't sustain that. They do give a certain amount of free credit per month, so I'll try to turn on the reverse-t feature at the start of each month, but it'll get turned off once the free credit has been used. Hopefully in the near future I'll be able to add a way for individual users to use their own billing account at Google with the plugin.”

Looks like that plug-in connects to a web service to function and might get pulled.

The issue existed before I installed the geoencoding plugin. I installed it to see if I could use that instead, but that also didn’t work for me.

After removing the plugin, the issue persists, as it did pre-installation.

James

When you drag an image into a map, are you dragging it onto a tag, a bit of text on the map listing a location, or just in the vincinity.

For example say you have an image taken in the Grand Canyon, niw in the map, somewhere the words Grand Canyon National Park will display, did you drag to that spot on the map, or just in the vincinity.

Not at a pc to experiment, thus could all be bull.

Followup. Got on MAC Book (High Sierra) and it works on my rig. Drages an image to near my home on map, and yep, GPS data.

Thank you for your reply, johnrellis!

As I wrote, the workaround "Add GPS Coordinates" doesn't help.

An other workaround works though. If I create a Saved Location and drag it onto the photos. It works while many photos are taken in the same location. The solution is not feasible if the photos are taken in multiple locations, for example while travelling.

Here are the first lines from the System info:

Lightroom Classic version: 8.1 [ 1200465 ]

And when you are on that computer working in Lightroom you are connected to the internet? And if you bring up the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop application, it knows you are connected to the internet?

Just getting rid of an assumption.

While you are at it, from that computer, and yes I know your Adobe account is functional, as you are in this forum, bring up Adobe.com, sign in, and manage your account. Not to actually manage anything, just to see that you can connect to the servers.

I suspect for the map feature to work, you need to go thru an Adobe server, that then connects to a Google server (well, LightRoom would), and that connectivity issues might be going on.
