unable to import photos to LR Classic (ver. 10.4) on Mac running Big Sur (ver.-- 11.6)

Hello- I suddenly can't import photos, presumably relative to this message when I open LR Classic 10.4 on my new Mac mini running 11.6:

'Lightroom cannot write to the following directories. Until this problem is resolved, syncing from Lightroom may not function correctly.'

The directory it can't write to is 'Users'. isn't that anyone and everyone on a Mac? And I'm trying to import, not sync. Are they related? Any light shed would be much appreciated!

Does the application have full disk access in Privacy (System Settings)?
