I have a pop-up with an "unexpected error opening catalog". How do I fix this?
{Thread title edited by moderator}
Have your operating system search all disk(s) for all files whose name ends with .LRCAT.ZIP (might be lower case). Unzip the file, and then make a copy and follow the instructions above.

Hi,
We're sorry about the trouble with Lightroom Classic. Would you telling us which version of Lightroom Classic are you using? Is your catalog saved on an external drive? If yes, try moving the catalog to your computers local drive & check if you're able to open it.
You can also check out the steps suggested here: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/error---unexpected-error-opening-catalog--occurs-in-lig...
Let us know how it goes!
Regards,
Nikunj

This usually indicates your catalog file is somehow corrupted, and that perhaps you also have a hard disk malfunction.
Find a recent backup of your catalog file, make a COPY of the recent backup (do NOT move the recent backup), and paste the copy into a brand new empty folder. Double-click on it to see if it will open. If that doesn't work, make another COPY of the recent backup and paste it into a brand new empty folder on a different disk and double-click on it to see if it will open.

So what if that doesn't work? What do I do?

Do you actively make backups?
or, are you assuming backups are created?
